About Dr. Mathis
Dr. Chris Mathis was born and raised in Reno, Nevada, attended Roy Gomm Elementary school where his mother taught, Swope Middle School, and Reno High School. He obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Zoology at Brigham Young University, with a minor in Spanish, and attended Medical School at the University of Nevada. Subsequently he completed his Family Medicine Residency at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in Scottsdale Arizona, and has been practicing in Reno since 1994. He is bilingual and fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Mathis chose family medicine because he loves taking care of the whole family, from the children to the parents and grandparents. He chose the name of Hunter Creek Medical because he has spent many days hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and backpacking at Hunter Creek and the surrounding area since he was a young boy.
Dr. Mathis is an advocate of taking care of and responsibility for your own health. He has participated in athletics on the high school and collegiate level and through his training in Scottsdale and volunteering as a team physician for Reno High School he has developed unique talents in dealing with athletes and their problems in the world of sports medicine. In his free time he loves to find himself on a beautiful river or mountain lake fly fishing and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors, hiking or playing tennis with his wife and family, or watching a good western.
